About

In 1992, Gary Chapman published a book titled "The 5 Languages of Love," articulating a unique perspective on the ways humans express their love and subsequently how understanding these 5 methods can exponentially improve any relationship. Today, almost 30 years after Chapman's theories were published, these 5 languages of love are still discussed in conversations of psychology, anthropology, sociology, and pretty much any ology you could think of. Through research experiments, personal experiences, and introspective reflection, people around the world have chosen to consider the love languages that their relationships are built upon, and moreover, the languages that they are most prominently drawn to themselves. Understanding and analyzing one's own preferred love languages is the first step in utilizing Chapman's methods to influence and ideally improve a relationship with another. This website is intended to help you do just that.

In the same way that all humans are different from one another, so are the relationships they share with others. This website defines and explores 5 distinctive ways in which humans express love and affection in an attempt to not only illuminate the internal desires of our loved ones, but also to discover within ourselves what we have been craving in our relationships. Learning about love languages and applying them to everyday life is a psychologically proven method of improving relationship exploration and satisfaction. So remain open, attempt introspection, and dive into the theory of love languages to learn what you and your relationships really need for love to thrive!

The Poem that Sparked a

Linguistic Exploration ...

You.

Written in 2019 by the site's creator, Emma Smith

I lay awake, lonely and cold, contemplating the reasons

it’ll always be you: Because you make new spotify playlists to pass the time.

Because you send memes to my mom even when you know she won’t understand them,

then explain them to her until she does. Because you facetime me on your way to class, just to see

my tired brown eyes. Because you twirl your hair when you’re nervous, or when you’re bored,

or when you miss me. Because you make pesto from scratch, dancing in boxers and bare feet.

Because you place too much emphasis on the letter a in bag, pronounce especially like

“expeshully,” and call water fountains bubblers. Because you tell me I’m beautiful

in front of your friends, and type I love you in all caps and mean it.

Because you laugh when I fall, but always kiss my bruises. Because when I tell you I’m scared, you admit you are too. You hold me through the phone

when i’m alone and afraid, and make 392 miles feel like a walk down the block.

You’ll max out your credit card, catch a bus, then a train,

all to make a dirty motel room our temporary home.

You ran into my life like a squirrel in the street, unexpectedly,

unapologetically you.
